Olympus on February 7, 2012 announced the OM-D E-M5 Micro Four Thirds camera featuring five axis image stabilization, the world's fastest autofocus and an electronic viewfinder (EVF). Olympus terms the launch of the camera, the first offering from the company's newly introduced OM-D (OM Digital) mirrorless ILC camera series: The beginning of the New. The camera's impressive feature make it worthy of at least some of the hype. Pentax on February 2, 2012 announced the Pentax K-01, its first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (ILC). The Pentax K-01 features a 16 MP, 23.7 x 15.7 mm (1.5 crop), APS-C stabilized sensor; 3-in, 921K dots LCD, and ISO sensitivity varies from 100-12800. It weighs 560g with battery and SD card. The camera does away with viewfinder completely. It can capture stills at 6 fps and full HD 1080p video at 30 FPS with h.264 compression (60 FPS at 720p). Pentax is the fifth leading camera brand to introduce a mirrorless ILC camera, after Olympus, Panasonic, Sony, Samsung. The K-01 is compatible with Pentax K-mount lenses used on existing Pe ntax DSLRs. More than 25 million K-mount lenses have been manufactured over the past few decades; all of them will be compatible with the new mirrorless camera. The Pentax K-01 announced on February 2, 2012 is an impressive blend of tradition and modernity that is sure to delight existing Pentax users, but it's moot whether it will draw more camera enthusiasts to the Pentax fold. Uppers The most outstanding feature of the camera is its ability to use out-of-the-box Pentax K-mount lenses that are used on existing Pentax DSLR cameras. The K-01 also supports dedicated XS lenses. (See photo above.) The kit lens that will ship with the K-10 is an XS lens: DA XS 40mm F2.8. It is claimed to be the thinnest ILC lens currently in the market. The sensor fitted on the Pentax K-01 is the same as the one fitted on the Pentax K-5, the company's flagship APS-C sensor DSLR. The K-01 matches the K-5 in functionality. Yet it's priced much lower! Nikon announced the P510 along with its High End compact camera Nikon P310. The p510 features a 4.3-180 mm lens (which corresponds to 24-1000 mm lens in a 35mm camera) with a variable angle , 3.0-in, 921K LCD. Besides stills, the camera can capture full 1080p HD video with stereo sound. ISO sensitivity ranges from 100-3200.
