Last week, Taiwan's Digitimes reported that the island nation's companies are working on the 7-inch iPad, which will feature an improved processor based on the ARM Cortex A9 core, 512 Mb RAM and 1,024 x 768 pixel display.
The Chinese-language Economic Daily News has since confirmed the development and named several Taiwanese companies involved in the project.
The companies named include Chimei Innolux and LG for supply of 7-inch LCDs with IPS (in-plane switching), like the ones used in iPad; AUO and Sintek for the digitizer, Cando Corporation for touchscreens, and Compal Electronics or Pegatron along with Foxconn for assembly of iPad 2.
