Asus officially unveiled the Eee Pad Transformer Prime, the world's first tablet powered by a quad-core processor, and released its full specs on Tuesday, November 8. Amazon Steps Up Kindle Fire Manufacturing Orders

With pre-orders for Kindle Fire relentlessly pouring in, Amazon has reportedly stepped up orders for the tablets on Taiwanese manufacturers to over 5 million units, reports Digitimes. Amazon's manufacturing partners in Taiwan include Wintek, Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT), LG Display, Ilitek, Quanta Computer, Aces Connectors and Wah Hong Industrial. In the middle of the third quarter, Amazon had increased its initial 3.5 million unit order to 4 million units. Kindle Fire will start shipping on November 15, and Amazon is hard at work adding to the list of apps that would be available in the Amazon AppStore on launch. Kindle Fire runs a highly customized version of Android, requiring apps to be tweaked to run on it with optimized performance. Intel Plans New CPUs for Tablet PCs

Intel plans a new range of processors to power tablet computers, a significant tweak to its earlier plan of using Medfield processors for both smartphones and tablet, reports Digitimes. The Medfield platform, built on the Cedar Trail architecture, is Intel's first purpose-built 32nm platform for smartphones and tablets, optimized for both low power and high performance. The platform was expected to enable sub-9mm designs Tablets weighing less than 1.5 pounds. Intel's overhaul of its 2012 product roadmap has been prompted by a desire to field processors that can match ARM CPUs in terms of thermal design power (TDP), facilitating increased battery life. The company aims to bring TDP of its smartphone and tablet processors down to 10W over the next two years. Sources tell Digitimes that Intel plans to launch 32nm Saltwell, 22nm Silvermont and 14nm Airmont chipsets in the next three years.

Canon is developing a new-concept EOS-series SLR camera capable of recording 4K video using a 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor, the company announced on November 3. The camera will be able to record at a frame rate of 24P, with Motion-JPEG compression. The company's announcement coincides with the launch of its Cinema EOS System, marking Canon's full-fledged entry into the digital high-resolution production industry. The Cinema EOS System targets cinematography professionals and spans the lens, digital cinema camera and digital SLR camera product categories. 4K Standard 4K is an emerging standard for video recording and computer graphics. The standard is based on a 4,000 pixels of horizontal resolution with the vertical resolution varying with the recording aspect ratio. Canon EOS C300 Digital Cinema Camera is an interchangeable lens video camera with a 8.20 MP resolution 35 mm equivalent CMOS sensor.
