HTC and Verizon are reportedly teaming up to release a slate powered by Google's open source Chorme OS on November 26.
Launch plans of the device were leaked to Download Squad by a source, who didn't provide any hardware details.
Based on the presumption that the Google backed tablet will feature leading edge hardware, like the Nexus One smartphone, Download Squad speculates the hardware configuration could be:
Multi-touch display (1,280 x 720 resolution)
Nvidia Tegra 2 platform
2GB of RAM
32GB SSD
3G
Wi-Fi
Bluetooth
GPS
Webcam
Memory card reader
The November 26 launch date happens to be Black Friday.
Google released a video of a Chrome OS powered tablet concept in February.
The device featured a multi-touch screen, using which you could move and resize windows, and a virtual keyboard that too could be sized and moved.
The browser based Chrome OS is honed to serve as a window into the internet and cloud.
Like Apple's iPad, the Chrome tablet is likely to be a consumer tool, not a productivity tool. It is likely to feature heavy duty support for web surfing and media consumption, but only light content creation using an onscreen keyboard.
Google's Chrome OS was initially thought to target netbooks, just like its Android OS was initially believed to target smartphones. Apple's iPad seems to have changed all that.
While many vendors have announced plans to launch Android powered tablets before the end of the year, with Dell already having launched one, this is the first rumor of a Chrome powered tablet to be launched this year.
