Verizon's worst kept secret, Droid 2, is now official with a formal announcement from the company.
The keenly awaited superphone from Motorola, with a pull out QWERTY keyboard and 3.7" display, improves upon the Motorola Droid released in 2009.
Droid 2 is powered by Google's Android 2.2 and packs a 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, improving upon the Droid's Android 2.1 OS and 550 MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor.
Droid 2 features full push corporate e-mail, intuitive social messaging, and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 helping to manage both work and social life.
It offers a redesigned symmetrical keyboard with raised keys for more responsive typing, speech-to-text input, and an alternative virtual multi-touch keyboard allow for quick messaging; or customers can also use Swype for even easier text input.
The device can work as a 3G Mobile HotSpot with the ability to connect up to five compatible Wi-Fi devices.
Its 5-megapixel camera features enhanced functionality and DVD-quality video capture with DLNA connectivity to share on compatible devices. Droid 2 comes with 8 GB of preloaded on-board memory and the 8 GB microSD card, which can be upgraded to a 32 GB SD card for a total cargo capacity of 40 GB. It is priced at $199.99 with two-year lock in period. The optional 3G Mobile HotSpot service costs $20 per month over the phone / data plan.
