LG Electronics has dropped plans for an Android 2.2 Froyo based tablet computer on advice from Google which says the OS isn't optimized for powering tablet computers.
"We plan to introduce a tablet that runs on the most reliable Android version ... We are in talks with Google to decide on the most suitable version for our tablet and that is not Froyo 2.2," an LG official, who declined to be named, said on Monday, October 4. [via Reuters]
LG is the third largest mobile phone maker in the world but is struggling to get a toe hold in the lucrative and booming smartphone and tablet market.
The company recently launched its Optimus One Android 2.2 powered smartphone in Korea; it plans to eventually sell the Optimus One through 120 carriers world wide.
The decision to drop the Froyo based tablet computer indicates the company is opting to be cautious even at the risk of losing an opportunity in the tablet market.
