Samsung Launches NX11 Mirrorless Camera

The Samsung NX11, announced on December 28, 2010, is an upgrade of the Samsung NX10, with support for i-Function lenses.

The NX10 was Samsung's first interchangeable lens camera.

Samsung introduced i-Function lenses with its NX100 announced in September 2010.

Lenses

The NX11 will ship with a bundled 18-55mm i-Function lens and be compatible with two i-Function lenses introduced earlier: a compact zoom 20-50mm lens to provide both high image quality and portability, and a small and light 20mm wide angle Pancake lens.

Two additional specialized i-Function lenses will be available in the first half of 2011 – a 60mm Macro lens and 18-200mm Super Zoom lens.

i-Function Lens

An i-Function lens allows you to control the camera through the lens for the first time.

Typically, you grip the camera body with your right hand and wrap the left hand around the lens to steady the camera. Users can manually set the camera using a single focus ring.

A button on the camera allows you to quickly scroll through manual settings - shutter speed, aperture, EV, WB, and ISO - and then make changes using the focus ring.

The lens communicates the setting to the camera body.

Features

The camera also comes with customized settings which are ideal for the lens being used.

The NX11 contains a feature set similar to the NX10. The grip has been changed to make shooting easier. Additionally, there is a lens priority mode dial.

Like the NX10, the NX11 uses an APS-C sensor.

Other features include a built-in flash, VGA (640x480) electronic viewfinder (EVF), a 3.0" AMOLED LCD screen and 720p HD recording.

Price and Shipping Date

The camera will ship in February 2011, priced $649 (with bundle zoom lens).
