The Olympus E-PL2 succeeds the E-PL1 launched in October 2009 and targets consumers who are looking to upgrade from point and shoot cameras.
Like the E-PL1, the E-PL2 aims to deliver DSLR quality photography with point and shoot simplicity.
The E-PL2 retains the 4:3, 17.3 x 13.0 mm sensor of the E-PL1 but features improved ISO sensitivity range of 200-6400 against ISO 200-1600 on E-PL1.
It comes with a m14-42mm f3.5/5.6 zoom lens (28mm-84mm equivalent) that features high-speed, silent autofocus during still shooting and high definition (HD) video capture.
The E-PL2 has a bigger 3-inch, 460,000 dot LCD than the 2.7-inch, 230K on the E-PL1. Its Live Guide II lets you preview HD video and still image effects on the LCD screen to achieve the perfect result effortlessly. It has more and improved art filters. Body design has been made more ergonomic body design. A Face Detection with iDetect feature automatically makes a person's eye the focus point of the image. The E-PL2 further reduces the chance of blurred subjects in images by recognizing up to eight faces, tracking them within the image area, and automatically focusing and optimizing exposure for sharp portraits. Other than the kit lens, you can choose from m17mm f2.8 lens (34mm equivalent), the super wide-angle zoom ED m9-18mm f4.0-5.6 lens (18-36mm equivalent), the high-power wide to telephoto zoom ED m14-150mm f4.0-5.6 lens (28-300mm equivalent), the wide zoom ED m40-150mm F4.0-5.6, or the super telephoto ED m75-300mm f4.8-5.6 (35mm equivalent 150–600mm). The camera is priced at $600 with the kit lens.
