Asustek Computers reportedly plans to launch 10-inch net books powered by Chrome or Android 3.0 OS and priced at $200-250 in June.
The Taiwan based computer manufacturer has entered into a tie up with Intel with an aim of shipping 6 million net books in 2011, reports DigiTimes, based on information sourced from Taiwanese component manufacturers.
The competitively ASUS priced net books will target office workers and content creators whom tablet computers have very little to offer despite their growing popularity. Sans a key, tablet computers are honed for media consumption and are essentially entertainment devices.
At $200-$250 the Asus net books will present a significant price advantage over tablet computers priced between $299 - $499, and could possibly lure many content consumers away from tablets.
Tablet computer shipments are expected to rise exponentially, from 17 million in 2010 to 44 million in 2011.
Asustek will also offer mid and high range net books priced at around $499 featuring sleeker design and cloud services.
