Other improvements include High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode for shooting stills and special effects for shooting stills and movies. The D5100 is the first Nikon camera to feature special effects. The repertoire includes selective color, color sketch, miniature effect and night vision (up to ISO 102400 equivalent). The camera features a standard sensitivity settings of ISO 100–6400 which on Hi 2 goes to ISO 25600 equivalent. The Nikon 5100 is an entry level DSLR with many features for professionals. The D5000 was the first Nikon digital-SLR camera equipped with the vari-angle monitor that can be viewed in normal position flush against the camera back, or swung out and rotated and/or tilted. When not in use, the monitor can be stowed with the LCD panel facing the camera back, essentially becoming its own rugged monitor cover. The monitor on the D5100 features a side hinge that prevents the monitor from hitting the tripod when it is opened while the camera is mounted on a tripod. The vari-angle monitor opens from 0 to 180° to the side, and can be rotated up to 90° clockwise and up to 180° counter-clockwise when it is open. This enables shooting from a wide variety of angles, from low to high, making even self portraits possible. The camera ships with a AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR kit lens.
