Samsung Electronics filed multiple lawsuits against Apple for patent infringement on April 21 in Seoul, Tokyo and Manheim, Germany.
In a tit-for-tat move, Samsung filed a lawsuit in the Seoul Central District Court, Korea against Apple Inc. citing five patent infringements. Separately, it filed a suit in a court in Tokyo, Japan citing two patent infringements, and in Manheim, Germany citing three patent infringements.
Samsung's press release says the company is "responding actively to the legal action taken against us in order to protect our intellectual property and to ensure our continued innovation and growth in the mobile communications business."
Earlier this week Apple sued Samsung alleging multiple IP infringements. Apple says Samsung's smartphones, like the Galaxy S, are closely modeled on Apple's iPhone 4 in terms of packaging and UI.
Interestingly, Apple smartphones and tablets source many of their components from Samsung Electronics.
