Sony Steps in with Two Android 3.0 Tablets

Sony has announced it will launch two Android tablets this fall that will offer an "Immersive Entertainment Experience."

Sony S1 (codename) is a 9.4 inch wedge shaped tablet optimized for rich media entertainment, and the S2 (codename) a clamshell tablet with two 5.5 in displays for mobile communication and entertainment. The fold in displays are rounded at the back.

Sony claims the off-center of gravity form factor of the S1 will make it more stable and easy to grip, offering comfortable use for hours.

The dual displays on the S2 can be used together as one large screen to browse websites, or as two separate screens to display different content. For example, users can watch a video on one screen and input commands on the other, or check email on one screen and use the other as a soft keyboard.

Both the tablets can be used as digital reading devices with easy access to ebooks at Sony's Reader™Store2.

The tablets can also be used as remote controls for home entertainment devices such as Sony's Bravia TV. Users can perform functions like turning on their TVs, changing the channel and adjusting the volume.

Both tablets will feature Wi-Fi and/or 3G/4G and be able to beam audio and video using DLNA wireless protocol.
