Street prices for Asus Transformer tablets are likely to drop by June as Asustek Computer will reportedly ramp up production from 100,000 units in May to 300,000 units in June.
The Asus Eee Pad Transformer, sans its docking station, is currently selling $50 over its manufacturer recommended price of $400 on Amazon. Many outlets don't the competitively priced and impressively speced 10.1-inch, Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablet in stock.
According to Chinese-language Commercial Times [via Digitimes], Asustek Computers has cleared bottlenecks in the raw material supply chain and production is likely to peak at 300,000-400,000 units by July.
Asustek could end the year with 2.5-2.8 million Eee Pad Transformer shipments, against initial projections of 2 million.
The company is likely to announce revised shipment targets during its forthcoming investors conference for the third quarter.
The Asus Eee Pad Transformer is powered by a nVidia Tegra 2 SoC processor with 1GB of LPDDR2 RAM, the tablet features capacitive touchscreen display with 1280 x 800 pixels screen resolution, 5 MP rear camera, 1.2 MP front camera, 16GB/32GB/64GB of flash storage with Micro SD expansion slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity; stereo speakers, audio jack, USB 2.0 and HDMI connector.
The 12.9 mm thick device weighs 680 gms, has 9.5 hr battery life and comes with gyroscope, compass and GPS.
It comes with an optional docking station that dovetails as a keyboard and extra battery pack that increases battery life to a whopping 16 hr.
