Olympus PEN E-P3 Announced

Olympus announced its new flagship PEN camera, E-P3, on June 30. The mirrorless interchangeable lens camera with a 4:3 (17.3 x 13.0 mm) sensor is claimed to feature the world's fastest auto focus (AF) speed.

The classic shaped camera targets hobbyists as well as professional photographers looking for a camera that is easy to carry.

The E-P3 features a 12.3 MP Live MOS Sensor with ISO sensitivity upto 12,800 and a new image engine, TruePic VI.

Low light capability of the camera is enhanced with in-body image stabilization. A built in flash and focus assist light help you cope with even lower light conditions.

The E-P3 can shoot 1080i HD video in either AVCHD or AVI formats.

Its AF System features 35 focus points spread over almost the entire viewing area, and the ability to track a moving target object.

The camera has a 3-inch 614K dot OLED Touch screen panel with a newly-designed touch interface.

Other new features in the camera include art filters for stills and video, Multiple Exposure and In-Camera Editing.

Supported art filters are: Diorama, Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale & Light Color, Light Tone, Grainy Film, Pin Hole, Cross Process, Gentle Sepia and Dramatic Tone.

Olympus has added a rotational dial, sub-dial and two new function buttons to the back of the PEN E-P3 to facilitate rapid changes in menu settings. Photographers can adjust aperture and exposure time in an instant, using their thumbs, without switching between menu selections.

The Olympus PEN E-P3 will ship with either the ED m14-42mm II R f3.5/5.6 zoom lens (28mm-84mm equivalent) or the m17mm f2.8 (34mm equivalent) lens.

Along with the E-P3, Olympus has launched two lenses with high-speed, near-silent autofocus during still shooting and high-definition (HD) video capture:

M. Zuiko Digital ED 12m f2.0 lens (24mm equivalent) and M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f1.8 lens (90mm equivalent)

The Olympus PEN E-P3 Body with either of the two lenses will retail at an estimate street price of $900.00 and will be available starting August 2011.
