Nikon on April 19, 2012 announced its new entry level Digital SLR - Nikon D3200 – the successor to the D3100 announced in August 2010.
The Nikon D3200 features a new DX-format CMOS image sensor with an effective pixel count of 24.2 million pixels, against the 14.2-million pixels image sensor on the D3100.
The new sensor improves ISO sensitivities to ISO 100 - 6400, from IS0 100-3200 on the D3100.
With the new sensor comes a new processing engine, Expeed 3. (The D3100 featured the Expeed 2 processing engine.)

The Guide mode on the D3100, which won the iF Communication Design Award 2011 from International Forum Design GmbH of Hanover Germany for making the camera very easy to use, has been further improved in the D3200.
The D3200 features more assist images and text explanations of scenes to make it even more easier for the entry level user than the D3100.
The D3200 features a 3-in., approx. 921k-dot TFT LCD monitor with wide viewing angle for live view shooting. (The D3100 featured a 3-in., approx. 230 k-dot TFT LCD)
When using live view to capture stills, users can choose one of four AF-area modes: Normal-area AF, Wide-area AF, Subject-tracking AF, or Face-priority AF.

The D-Movie function on the camera enables recording of 1920 x 1080/30p full HD movies. (1,920 x 1,080/24 p on the D3100.)
AF-area modes available during movie recording are Face-priority AF and Subject-tracking AF.
Face-priority AF is effective when recording of portrait-like movies; subject-tracking AF tracks a subject as it moves through the frame.
In camera movie editing has been improved in the D3200. The camera supports use of an external stereo microphone.
The Nikon D3200 is priced at $700/-.
