The device is designed to create a rich reality around the user, where a variety of tips and reminders for appointments, information about the weather outside or the navigation instructions will pop up in front of the owner’s eyes.
The futuristic Google X Lab has officially declassified the project in creating computer glasses – Project Glass. Fragmentary information about it has appeared earlier. With the help of these glasses, people will be able to make calls, translate the inscriptions on signboards or in the menu, do online shopping, take pictures and upload them onto the net, know their friends’ location and share information about their own whereabouts. In general, you will be constantly connected to the Internet and all of its services. The glasses will also perform the role of an organizer.
One of the team leaders, a professor from the University of Washington, Babak Parviz, (known for creating a contact lens with electronics inside), says that technology should work for people and be there where it is needed. He adds that their group started the computer glasses project to create such a technology that will help you explore the world around you and share your own one.
According to Gizmag, the company has been working on the project for some time, but there is still much to do before its completion. In late February, the New York Times, relying on the information from insiders, reported that the Google glasses will work on the basis of the Android platform, connect to 3G or 4G, and have a built-in accelerometers and GPS navigation.
Moreover, according to the New York Times, the miracle device can appear on sale by the end of 2012. Its estimated price ranges from $250 to $600. However, these forecasts may be a little hasty. After all, as the development team says, they have “shown their cards” in order to receive some feedback from potential customers and to clarify many aspects of the development. “What do you want to see in Project Glass? ” – such is the question asked by the developers.
In order to stimulate a response, the team published photographs of the concept showing its alleged design. They also created a video depicting a variety of ways to use the glasses.
